    @D Benton Smith re: “Stupid”

Your rant brings to mind the phenomenon known as the Dunning Kruger Syndrome.

In effect, the less intelligent a person is, the less capable they are of comprehending their own lack of intelligence; they are too stupid to understand that they are stupid.

My favorite definition of “stupid”: self-confident ignorance, delusions of competence.

A friend called me last year and told me about his local non religious alternative ‘old hippie’ High School had it’s students consistently testing in the standard state tests at 98% and up, rivaling the top regular High Schools in the state.

He said a math/geometry lesson was field tripping to the big city, Boston, giving the small class of students $20 dollars each and a map. They had to navigate the subway system to six locations, take a selfie at each location and get back to the van by 5:00pm for the ride home.

They had to budget the $20 to get the fares right, figure out the subway line maps, get to the right destination and make it back to the rendezvous point On Time.

They were put in pairs to learn problem solving together and had to write an essay about what they saw, and learnt and felt about the day, a multi task experience.

They also field tripped to museums for different themes, art, science, industrial historic museums featuring different epochs in tech evolution and went to different business and got tours on how that particular business functioned.

The majority of their time was spent Outside the ‘classroom’.

They were also exposed to this concept which was a revelation to most young people:

Yeah, the Dunning Kruger Syndrome seems to be the shoe that fits. In the final analysis ignorance is not bliss after all. Turns out that it’s just ignorance.

Compare 14-timer Sergei Bubka to all-time One-Timers Bob Beamon and Mike Powell respectively in The Long Jump record….

    ….perverse incentives aside.

Invariably I’m in agreement with Celticbiker.

What does it take for local folk to drop guys like Cullom or the ever-execrable pedo-Ritter?

Conversely, is it inexhaustible forgiveness/sympathy or an infectious dedication in the face of “rejection”-able criteria that begets the inexplicable loyalty?

Certainly, no one here is getting paid by Ritter or Cullom et al to repost and promote those guys’ posts, right???

The UK govt is considering MASSIVE tax incentives to the elderly who consent to being euthanized.

It won’t help them – it’ll help their family who inherits their pension if they choose to turn off their switch before they’re 75.

    Sweet

The CIA, DoD, US GOV’T “targeted” kids at least by the ’60s for their Projects.
S.E.A.L. was one such program. Seminar of Elementary Advanced Learning.
Much like my latest thoughts on the value of medical school, I thought every child should receive at least one year access to SEAL and young adults one year of medical training. Why? To find out about yourself rather than how to become a loyal cog for some businessman’s venture whose indifference never returns the loyalty to you.
They selected 2 kids. I was one. Our “instructor” Mr. Rice, former USAF Intel and by that association most likely CIA, was one of the kindest, thoughtful, humane, protective guys a child could ever encounter and his dark side was PTSD long before ‘it’ became criteria for exclusion from the workplace.

Da Billionaires particularly 42Toofers Ramaswamy and foreigner Elongated Musk should stay The Hell AWAY from public education.
Here’s 2 questions to pose to these Bloviating Know It Alls.

    1. At what IQ is it I mpossible for a child/adult to “learn” or be “taught” anything no matter the repetition, teaching style or incentive?
    2. How many Chemical Engineers ((with honors))
have ever been willing to forego the riches and esteem associated with that degree and “teach” the uneducable and live out their lives in the community of those same uneducated parents and their children? I know one and I knew her father, a professional educator himself.

This does not relate directly to anything presently on this site, but I thought it would be good to point out the war in the Middle East has gone thermonuclear with Israel being the first user dropping an American m61 nuke set at 300 kt yield in Syria.

The news has been picked up on some major news sites in India, Turkey, and the Middle East but is being censored on “Western” financial news sites such as HotCopper.com.

    Some threads and links follow:

    With respect to:

Hans Benjamin Braun is possibly the Swiss scientist mentioned:

Israeli strike sparks global concern: Did it explode small nuclear bomb in Syria? Report claims…

The strike caused a massive explosion, triggering a 3.0 magnitude earthquake that was felt as far away as Iznik, Turkey, located 820 kilometers from Tartus

On December 16, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a powerful airstrike on a weapons depot in Tartus, Syria, destroying a Scud missile facility. However, reports suggest the damage might be far more extensive, with speculation that a small nuclear weapon could have been used in the attack.

The strike caused a massive explosion, triggering a 3.0 magnitude earthquake that was felt as far away as Iznik, Turkey, located 820 kilometers from Tartus. Russian media outlet Sputnik reported that Israel used a new missile launched from a warship. Some reports also claim that the B61 nuclear bomb, developed by the United States, might have been involved.

The European Union’s Radioactive Environmental Monitoring detected increased radiation levels in Turkey and Cyprus approximately 20 hours after the blast. This finding has raised fears of a potential nuclear incident.

Meanwhile, tensions remain high in the region. On December 20, the United Nations Security Council extended its peacekeeping mission between Israel and Syria in the Golan Heights for six months, expressing concerns over escalating military activities. Despite the extension, Israeli forces continued their operations along the ceasefire line on December 22.

The situation is further complicated by the recent ousting of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a rebel offensive. In response, Israeli troops entered the demilitarized zone monitored by the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), describing the move as a temporary measure to secure their borders.

Articles like this have even been published on msn.com and numerous news publications in the Middle East, India, and Turkey. HotCopper.com in Australia (although servers in the USA) is censoring all news about it. That means it is certainly true. It definitely was an American M61 nuke dialed to 300 kt.

Certain sites only censor the truth. When a financial news site does this you can be sure it is so they can front run events in financial markets. Advertising revenue can’t possibly pay their overheads.
