London declining as financial center – Bloomberg
The stock market is shrinking at its fastest rate in more than a decade, the business news agency reports
In 2024, some 45 firms reportedly delisted from the London stock market, 10% more than the whole of last year. It’s the highest number of companies to leave the exchange since 2010. At the same time, the volume of deals targeting UK corporations have soared 81% this year to more than $160 billion.
Data tracked by the news agency also shows that only 11 companies have completed IPOs in London during the current year, raising a total of $1 billion, which is down 11% from the amount raised during the same period in 2023.
“Unless the UK gets its act together, it’s going to continue to lose ground and relevance,” Liad Meidar, managing partner at investment firm Gatemore Capital Management, told Bloomberg. “Quite simply, companies can’t get the right cost of capital. They can’t get the valuation they want.”…
..The UK stock market remains popular with bargain hunters, Bloomberg said, noting that British equities are currently trading at a record discount of over 40% compared to peers globally.
“If London wants to keep its place as the financial center of Europe, major reforms are needed,” said Joachim Klement, a strategist at British advisory firm Panmure Liberum, as quoted by the agency. “It is time for UK investment banks, the London Stock Exchange, and regulators to realize the seriousness of the situation and take action. Unfortunately, there are no easy fixes.” https://swentr.site/news/608835-london-declining-financial-center/

For the last few days spouse and I watched the 1971 film Nicholas and Alexandra. While I can understand the anger of the Russian people against the abdicated Czar, and can see a reason for a trial, etc., and possibly against his wife, who ruled in some areas while Nicholas was away, there was no Enlightenment-based justification for murdering the children, who had never wielded power. (Yes, Alexis was a boy full of anger, but his hemophiliac cousins all perished from complications of minor auto accidents — chances are that if Alexis had lived, the same would have befallen him.). All I saw was a popular movement that had soured due to men losing their moral compass…just like the French Revolution, the Nazis, etc. The blood of the innocent (if angry) was spilt — and it was a precursor of more and more — millions more — blood both innocent and guilty spilt — the guilty without proper trials, punishment that often outweighed the crimes…if they were even crimes at all, in a more sensible environment.

We need leaders with strong moral convictions. We need populaces with strong moral convictions. Those morals cannot be of the current, snazzy and popular “groupthink,” but rather to other, longer-lasting standards, requiring thoughtfulness and deliberation. We need people who will step up and say, wait — I understand that we are all justifiably angry, but “two wrongs don’t make a right,” and murdering those who have done us no harm will only bring eventual woe upon us.

I have – just like yesterday – garbage tier information and analysis on Syria for you

One thread I noticed in the rumor mill – advance knowledge, such rumors as:

    -Russia warned Assad in August
-Erdogan called to discuss the future of Syria and Assad refused “Come, let us decide the future of Syria together”
    -Iran evacuated embassies in November
-Iranian military advisors left before things kicked off
-Russia immediately knew to pull their ships out of port
-Assad’s family flew out to Russia in November (some)
-Assad refused to stay to help with the transitional govt but knew what was coming

    RUMORS mind you.

But there is a cloud of this sort of rumor suggesting Syria’s future was decided back in August or September.

The beginning of the 2nd Austin Powers movie, when Austin Powers realizes his new bride (Elizabeth Hurley) is a fembot. Sad. “Everybody knew, Austin. We all knew.”

For anyone who didn’t read my last garbage tier analysis from yesterday, I predict that the next thing to happen will happen to Lebanon, probably Beirut in particular. Port facilities in particular.

UNLESS my hypothetical 5d chess scenario is happening, in which case part of the deal was for Turkey-controlled (I’m not doing that Turkieyeyaheieuie shit. Get back to me when we all call Germany Deutschland) Syria to continue to allow a connection for Hezbollah.

There have been rumors of clashes between Turkish “terrorists” and US/NATO “terrorists in the north of Syria.

That map I posted of Syria a day or two ago before/after showed a long thin green salient coming south from the Turkish “terrorists” with yellow US/NATO “terrorists” going west, looping around it. The appearance to me was a blocking move by Turkey saying, basically, no, northwest Syria is mine.

Quite possible the Kurds get the shaft now. How exactly are they useful to anyone anymore? What party both CAN support and WANTS to support them in their landlocked position? Against whom in Syria? Turkey?? Then what response can be expected from Turkey, with Assad off the chessboard? Does the US still want Syrian Kurds? For WHAT now? And how expensive and distracting is the upkeep of this gigapet for what benefit? Sorry guys.

Rumors of Israel moving into southern Syria. For defense. Airstrikes on Syria – possibly on Syrian munitions storage.

Rumors from days ago of US A10’s doing close ground support for US/NATO “terrorist” columns. (as opposed to bombing those columns)

IF there was a 5d chess deal between Turkey, Iran, and Russia, one of the details would have surely been a free hand for Turkey with the Kurds.

From Turkish (Turkeieaish) perspective, what are those US/NATO Kurdish forces FOR with Assad gone? If they keep getting maintained? ME, Turkey. Nobody else. I look all around and can find no other person this gun is made for shooting at.

The world sat on its hands for over a year watching Gaza. Will the people with Ukraine and Palestine flags in their lawn switch to Kurdistan this December or will it take until January?

(this is sort of a litmus test. If this is popularized as a new issue, Big Meanie Turkey, then the fall of Syria did NOT go according US/NATO plan and Turkey made their own separate deal.)

BIG Breaking: Israel Bombs Syria’s Damascus | Two Explosions Rock Damascus as Rebels Take Control

    20,925 views Premiered 7 hours ago #IsraelBombsSyria #DamascusExplosions #SyrianRebels

Two powerful explosions shook Syria’s capital, Damascus, following a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting critical military sites, including air defense bases and ammunition depots. The blasts occurred just hours after opposition rebel forces declared control over the city, marking the end of President Bashar al-Assad’s rule. The bombings and explosions have escalated tensions in the region as the Syrian civil war enters a new, volatile phase.
The airstrikes and explosions have caused widespread destruction, and the city is now in a state of uncertainty as both local and international forces scramble to respond.

In a dramatic turn of events, Israeli tanks have crossed into Syria from the Golan Heights following the fall of Damascus to rebel forces.
As Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime collapses, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have bolstered their position along the Golan border, deploying additional ground and aerial forces to prevent any violations of Israeli sovereignty.
Reports indicate that Israeli artillery has been used in the Quneitra area, and airstrikes were carried out near Damascus targeting advanced weapons systems, including a chemical weapons facility.
The IDF has also issued a warning to rebel forces, urging them not to cross the “Alfa Line,” the demilitarized zone between Israel and Syria.
Tensions continue to rise as the situation in Syria remains volatile.

U.S. Central Command conducts dozens of airstrikes to eliminate ISIS camps in central Syria

    Dec. 8, 2024
    Release Number 20241208-01
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TAMPA, Fla. – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted dozens of precision airstrikes targeting known ISIS camps and operatives in central Syria, Dec. 8.

The strikes against the ISIS leaders, operatives, and camps were conducted as part of the ongoing mission to disrupt, degrade, and defeat ISIS, in order to prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations and to ensure that ISIS does not seek to take advantage of the current situation to reconstitute in central Syria.

The operation struck over 75 targets using multiple U.S. Air Force assets, including B-52s, F-15s, and A-10s.

Battle damage assessments are underway, and there are no indications of civilian casualties.

CENTCOM, together with allies and partners in the region, will continue to carry out operations to degrade ISIS operational capabilities even during this dynamic period in Syria.

“There should be no doubt – we will not allow ISIS to reconstitute and take advantage of the current situation in Syria,” said General Michael Erik Kurilla, “All organizations in Syria should know that we will hold them accountable if they partner with or support ISIS in any way.”

“We’re fighting/bombing ISIS” = bombing/fighting whoever we want while supporting ISIS. Or just bombing empty desert for the heck of it. Satellite photos of US forces and ISIS co-mingled and positioned for mutual defense, 20 mile long ISIS oil convoys unharmed while mission after mission bombs empty desert.

Infinite Toyota Tacomas and white hi-tops. Super-convenient withdrawals in front of every pristine, untouched bank vault and armory. hahah Bombing ISIS. ahahaha.

I wonder if that plumber’s truck from Texas is still being used by ISIS. If they kept to the maintenance schedule, I don’t see why not. Do they drive on the right side of the road in syria or did our trucks’ steering positions make it weird for them?

Syrian forces collapsed- bombing them anyway? Bombing TURKISH “terrorists” to edge them out of territorial gains? If A10’s were doing close ground support of ISIS columns, who were they bombing?

If they are bombing POST COLLAPSE, then who is the enemy????? Not the Syrian army.

Were our armed forces napping? For years? Didn’t bomb ISIS for 5 or more years, loud Syrian-collapse noises woke them from their heavy, snoring slumber with a loud snort at which point they hastily began bombing stuff when it was too late? Like an employee that fell asleep at their desk for 4 hours from narcolepsy, wakes up, frantically clicks on things realizing they are past an important deadline? Really?

Syria’s Assad is in Moscow after deal on military bases: Russian state media
By Andrew Osborn and Maxim Rodionov
December 8, 202412:22 PM PST Updated 2 hours ago

Syrian opposition leaders had agreed to guarantee the safety of Russian military bases and diplomatic institutions in Syria, the source told news agencies. But some Russian war bloggers said the situation around the bases was extremely tense and the source did not say how long the security guarantee lasted.
Moscow, a staunch backer of Assad whom it intervened to help in 2015 in its biggest Middle East foray since the Soviet collapse, is scrambling to salvage its position. Its geopolitical clout in the wider region and two strategically-important military bases in Syria are on the line.

A deal to secure Russia’s Hmeimim air base in Syria’s Latakia province and its naval facility at Tartous on the coast would come as a relief to Moscow.
The Tartous facility is Russia’s only Mediterranean repair and replenishment hub, and Moscow has used Syria as a staging post to fly its military contractors in and out of Africa.
Losing Tartous would be a serious blow to Russia’s ability to project power in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Africa, say Western military analysts.

Russian warships had left Tartous and taken up position off the coast for security reasons, the Hmeimim airbase had effectively been cut off after rebels took control of a nearby town, Kurdish forces had started to block Russian facilities beyond the Euphrates, and Russian positions at an oil facility in Homs had been blocked, Rybar said.
Reuters could not independently confirm Rybar’s assertions.
Earlier on Sunday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the two military facilities had been put on a state of high alert, but played down any immediate risk.
“There is currently no serious threat to their security,” the ministry said as it announced Assad’s departure from office and from Syria.
“As a result of negotiations between B. Assad and a number of participants in the armed conflict on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, he decided to resign from the presidency and left the country, giving instructions for a peaceful transfer of power,” it added, saying Russia did not participate in those negotiations.
The Foreign Ministry said Moscow was alarmed by events in Syria.
“We urge all parties involved to refrain from the use of violence and to resolve all issues of governance through political means,” its statement said.
“In that regard, the Russian Federation is in contact with all groups of the Syrian opposition.”

Israel ‘seizes’ buffer zone in occupied Golan Heights amid turmoil in Syria

Benjamin Netanyahu said the overthrow of Assad in Syria was a “historic day in the Middle East” and the fall of a “central link in Iran’s axis of evil”.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday he had ordered the Israeli military to “seize” a demilitarised buffer zone on the border with Syria after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.
The Israeli premier said a 50-year-old “disengagement agreement” between the two countries had collapsed and “Syrian forces have abandoned their positions”.

As a result, he said, “I directed the IDF (military) yesterday to seize the buffer zone and the commanding positions nearby. We will not allow any hostile force to establish itself on our border.”

The announcement, which Netanyahu made while visiting the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights which abut the buffer zone, came after the military said it had deployed forces to the area.
Israel had already said the day before, as the Islamist-led rebels swiftly advanced across Syria, that its soldiers entered the UN-patrolled buffer zone to assist peacekeepers in repelling an attack.

On Sunday, the army announced a troop deployment there, citing “the possible entry of armed individuals into the buffer zone”.

“Following the recent events in Syria… the IDF (military) has deployed forces in the buffer zone and in several other places necessary for its defence, to ensure the safety of the communities of the Golan Heights and the citizens of Israel,” a military statement said.

Israeli forces “will continue to operate as long as necessary in order to preserve the buffer zone and defend Israel”, it added.

The statement stressed that the Israeli military “is not interfering with the internal events in Syria”.

Since the rebel coalition, led by Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, began its renewed offensive against government forces on November 27, Syrian government forces have left positions near the Israeli-held Golan, according to a war monitor.

Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said on Saturday that Syrian army forces had withdrawn from positions in Quneitra province, which includes part of the Golan Heights.

Dima figures Russia and Iran are getting out while Turkey and “greater” Israel try to carve up Syria and Turkey eradicates Kurds. Russia gets Ukraine… That’s somebody’s deal.
