In other news so is the oil industry by saving some of it for the future (even though they wanna use it up as fast as they can for dollars, I think also the airlines are helping hugely. They must have asked the question – “We have declared a climate emergency now what do we do?” Ah get a real job and learn to use your damn hands again or alternatively …..
Do nothing and all things will be done.February 5, 2020 at 12:16 pm #53524boscohorowitzParticipant“more than 25,000 flights to, from or within China will be canceled this week”
In a crazy way, the above is perhaps the most uplifting datum I’ve seen concerning this. It’s a negative updraft; the cessation of so many flights is an impressive reduction in vectors, especially the globe-trotting kind. But wait! it’s better! but worse! That is toi say that the thrill I got, the uplift, was mostly my astonishment at the actual figures. Seeing how many jets full of people are in the air at any time stunned me even though I know that way back in early 911 days, the quotable average was that any time, a population the size of a large town or small city (150k) was aloft in transit.
One wonders how many espionage post-neo-cyberpunk authors are locking into their keyboards this Pac NW am working into their next novel the now freshly revitalized weaponized virus gone rogue motif (motif is a more powerful and useful term now that meme has been smeared all over the semiotext world). Quick! See the movie version before the next plague hits!

Speaking of globetrotters, the imagery and semiotics of this thing, the historical semiotics or maybe it’s the semiotics’ historicity?, is so weirdly disturbingly apt:

Now that you’re in hypnotic comatose seizures from the above, here’s a cure:
In case you need electroshock resuscitation:

“Let us begin with the body. The plain man thinks that material objects must certainly exist, since they are evident to the senses. Whatever else may be doubted, it is certain that anything you can bump into must be real; this is the plain man’s metaphysic. This is all very well, but the physicist comes along and shows that you never bump into anything: even when you run your hand along a stone wall, you do not really touch it. When you think you touch a thing, there are certain electrons and protons, forming part of your body, which are attracted and repelled by certain electrons and protons in the thing you think you are touching, but there is no actual contact. The electrons and protons in your body, becoming agitated by nearness to the other electrons and protons are disturbed, and transmit a disturbance along your nerves to the brain; the effect in the brain is what is necessary to your sensation of contact, and by suitable experiments this sensation can be made quite deceptive. The electrons and protons themselves, however, are only crude first approximations, a way of collecting into a bundle either trains of waves or the statistical probabilities of various different kinds of events. Thus matter has become altogether too ghostly to be used as an adequate stick with which to beat the mind.” Bertrand Russell
But electrons, whoa. You can flail a brain like lightning on a winter night with some good old electrons. Yee-HA! Pass me that there remote, Aint Bea.

February 5, 2020 at 12:50 pm #53527sumac.carolParticipantThis thing about patenting an antiviral drug sounds like crazy talk to me. I am no biology expert but have read enough conventional and alternative health experts say that viruses mutate frequently – more frequently than bacteria. Also, conventional anti-viral drugs are one- or two-trick ponies, able to kill a couple of viruses at most, but once mutation occurs you are out of luck. The alternative world offers a number of options including garlic which contains hundreds of anti- microbial compounds that work together in myriad various combinations such that viruses cannot simply mutate their way through the defensive capacity of garlic. You need a big dose though – a few raw cloves per day. Again I am no expert but I would not trust that pre- cut stuff you buy pickled in a jar. Garlic is just one example -easily available. There is also oil of oregano, colloidal or structured silver, raw horse radish etc. If you google fire cider you will see recipes for a herbal powerhouse anti- microbial mixture.

February 5, 2020 at 1:09 pm #53529Dr. DParticipant“65 fatalities – all in Hubei province”
Question: why are they all in Hubei Province? Before they recognized and got support? Weaker, poorer people (not buying plane tickets)? Better supportive care for pneumonia outside China? New HIV/antivirals? Sure.
For fun, how about this: you have an actual escape of an actual bioweapon, release and spread unknown. You need to lock down an ENORMOUS area and find the actual cases, but sure as heck aren’t going to admit it. So you release an innocuous generic-flu variety of some corona and let the 0.02% normal flu response hide and cover up your 50% actual-weapon corona release WHILE getting the actually deadly one under control with your full-army-mobilization. Thus Cheeto says “it’s going to turn out fine” because the flu released as cover story is…the flu. Winter 2020, 0.02%, like any other year.
Stay tuned.

Some pointed out that, as old thinking, we can give the OFFICE respect without giving the person respect. That’s an important distinction, and one not made by AOC, who boycotted. The reason is, one intends to capture the office, the government for themselves, yet if you cannot stand even the office, the government, the blannketty-blank nation it stand for, then you just intend to tear it all down and wreck it, and replace it with I-have-not-yet-planned-what, warlords historically, and this is quite what they say. It’s what ‘revolutionary’ means. They are not kidding you about being revolutionaries any more than they are kidding about being Socialists. They say it and have the membership card. Why would I disbelieve them?
Anyway, a fine distinction but an important one. About our (non)Pope, too. These things have happened many times, yet the office can recover and live on.
“Joe Biden Flopped in Iowa. And so Did the Democratic Party’s Reputation (G.)”
From yesterday:
“I really admire how the DNC went about preventing Bernie from winning Iowa”
Yes, that was amazing, a tour de force. First get the app so you can get data first, veto, perhaps even turn on the microphone and spy weeks ahead as there is essentially no security on any phone device. P.S. do NOT have the app vetted by anyone ESPECIALLY the DHS or they will find all these embarrassing “accidents” and close them. Then when Bernie wins, rig the vote…oh wait: Bernie wisely placed a person IN EACH OFFICE, fully expected a rigged count. Oops! They all meet in the principal’s office for a pow-wow, with Biden stomping his feet and refusing to allow any count at all, ever. The app — which is about to get double-checked AND fuel GOP calls for voter registration and paper trails in 2020 – then compromises on their crimes by counting ONLY the offices where Buttigieg won…barely. …After the enter polls were magically withheld after a meeting with Mr. Pete. Then suddenly, Lo! Lights out! The DNC sweeps in to count, which will take weeks, preventing Bernie from winning by 6%, taking that momentum into other states, and buying some time. P.S. 106% of all possible voters voted in Iowa last night…in 10 different areas, particularly Dallas — a city district, wot a coincidence! A little bad at maths, are we?
Um, guys? So…you think Bernie Bros are going to go all-in for #MayorCheat, #NeverWarren or whatever? What are you smoking? That’s what burned you last time…and P.S. did NOT burn the GOP, much as they hated, protested, detested, running the candidate who actually won.

Oh, the depths a politician must go to keep the show going. Better than being in jail. Better than people finding out with certainty that you have no problem with someone like Ghislaine Maxwell, the network she ran (and probably still runs if on a reduced power basis), and its relationship to the special club you lead with your tidy toy hammer rapping the podium.
“The oil market looks set for at least four months of depressed demand because of China’s coronavirus outbreak, with a large crude surplus not expected to clear at least until August, analysts and traders said.”
That sounds great for Russia. Vlad has their budget streamlined enough not to need go-go-go sales to maintain a steady course, and the stuff he keeps in the ground now only grows in value each year due to its relatively high EROI and all the complementary energy source Russia has developed to soften the cost of the inevitably lowering EROI factor in fossil fuelishness.
Not so good for USA oil. Good for USA consumers in the short run; in the longer run, a service economy nation can hardly afford a meltdown of the hospitality industry sending a bunch of the lower classes onto the streets, some truly homeless, others marching in protest. (cues La Marsaeilles, dons eye patch, realizes he doesn’t have a single yellow vest in his closet). After that, I’ll need one of Raul’s graph arrays to have a clue. Except that lowered demand for USA oil now affects the USA dollar since the Evil Empire’s members have worked out more than not how to sell stuff to each other without USA dollars.
Kind of a paradox: if we buy cheap foreign oil it helps our consumers keep rolling to the stores and other consumption sites, but it bankrupts a very large renascent oil industry, and the waves from that hitting our basic currency valuation will have uncommon symbolic weight, since oil sales are the primary traffic defining the USA dollar day by day.
If we buy our own oil, we have to raise energy prices through the roof to salvage the companies/infrastructure that make the oil. That will be a heavy blow to the Bubble.
Yeah, you hot dog short-sellers. If ever there was a time to let your nuts hang in the wind on a major bear run, this seems to be it. When the answer to What Could Possibly Go Wrong? is Pert Near Everything, short-selling seems solid.
COntinuing with Bertrand:
Matter in motion, which used to seem so unquestionable, turns out to be a concept quite inadequate for the needs of physics.
“Nevertheless modern science gives no indication whatever of the existence of the soul or mind as an entity; indeed the reasons for disbelieving in it are very much of the same kind as the reasons for disbelieving in matter. Mind and matter were something like the lion and the unicorn fighting for the crown; the end of the battle is not the victory of one or the other, but the discovery that both are only heraldic inventions. The world consists of events, not of things that endure for a long time and have changing properties. Events can be collected into groups by their causal relations. If the causal relations are of one sort, the resulting group of events may be called a physical object, and if the causal relations are of another sort, the resulting group may be called a mind. Any event that occurs inside a man’s head will belong to groups of both kinds.
“Well, maybe not any event; to take drastic example, being shot in the head.”

February 5, 2020 at 2:08 pm #53532Dr. DParticipantFrom Appreciation article: “Our economic system values growth — nothing more. The luxuries are a side effect. And they come bound up with a plague of other side effects”
Which is of course a very Socialist worldview. However, what is ‘luxury’? I can live with one begging bowl, is two a luxury? I have one robe, is a winter robe a ‘luxury’? No? How about a car so I can get to work? Yes in 1910, no now? What KIND of car, if, as he says, a Cadillac, then what about a 1984 Seville with 201k? It’s just sloppy thinking not to define these things.
EVERYONE agrees we don’t need ‘luxury’…because that is Webster’s definition of ‘luxury’: a thing extra, you don’t need. You don’t NEED hospitals, health care, we lived without them for 6,000 years. You don’t NEED doors, heat, A/C…however you will also certainly die without them. That’s okay, but it’s not a thing people CHOOSE for. So the system DOESN’T value growth. PEOPLE in the system want THINGS they didn’t have before, like forks, pots, doctors, cars, they didn’t have before. “Luxuries” to you, desirables that extend their life and ease to them. The people who comprise the system and make the decisions couldn’t give a rip about “growth”, whatever that is, they just want to not be too hot, hungry, and without screen doors buzzed by flies.
So the “side effects” he’s talking about are the PRIMARY effects: the use and transformation of materials that extends people’s live, ease, and prevents them from dying. The system – built by humans – naturally maximizes this “not dying” part. It may cause growth, in cities, transformations, populations, the “side effects” ARE the “effects”, the SAME side of the SAME coin, are you really going to advocate for MORE deaths and discomforts as so many do?
Sure, why not? I can do with less. I don’t mind. Chasing the horizon is also a discomfort, a treadmill of endless desire and dissatisfaction, but I think you’re going to need to use other words and other frameworks to describe it, to encourage it, and to sell it to other people, because this just says, “You suck, give up your life and security, and unlike me, go live in a cave. Anything else is world destruction, is evil, is cheating.” I don’t think that line will get many converts, and I know because they’ve been trying it since 1975 and losing harder every year. Meanwhile the guy who invented the LED bulb has already saved more energy than all the hot air used on the subject since then.
Want this world? Describe a Star Trek world where super-advanced ewok-humans live in the trees but make their own tricorders and medial 3-D printing materializers and quantum sub-space communicators. Just telling us to drop dead or go back to the caves won’t work.

I agree but with this caveat: they don’t know what revolutionary or big or small s Socialism is. They confuse those notions with the megacorpitalist booby traps they call policy. They, I assume, believe they’re big people reshaping the world with a righteous hand. (Go along with me on this, please, indulge the illusion that they believe this. The trouble with a riff as good as your Anti-Logos tirade flag, Doc, is that it sometimes turns to horror when you realize that it’s the literal truth, that these people really are that mentally inverted along with the bligatorily perversions.
“Um, guys? So…you think Bernie Bros are going to go all-in for #MayorCheat, #NeverWarren or whatever? What are you smoking? ”
Agreed. Totally. Oh, anything can happen, a buttefly’s wings, blah blah, maybe even a flock of cute robotic sparrows on the podium, but odds are way against that movement taking it to the goal line. I do hope it goes most of the distance, cuz Whoopi does an awesome Bernie imitation and the vids’ll be on youtube ere soon.

They need to be cooked – a couple cups of berries simmered in a a pot of water for 45 minutes, strain out the berries and drink the juice hot or cold flavoured if you wish with sugar and lemon. Keeps on fridge about a week. Good studies back up elderberry effectiveness as antiviral.

The mortality rate shown in the spreadsheet is completely meaningless. You need to know the average time between diagnosis and death and compare it to the cases at that time.
If the average time to death from diagnosis is two weeks then the comparison is 642 cases at that time versus 65 new deaths – about 10% mortality rate. If it is a week then the mortality rate is about 1%, which is not realistic.
The spreadsheet is interesting as looking at it from the bottom up shows cases tripled every three days, then increased less than double every three days. Anyone familiar with the story of the chessboard starting with one grain of rice and doubling at every square will realise this is not a good sign.
A deadly disease like this has only two possible outcomes : recovery or death. Only when one or the other happens can you calculate the mortality rate. It was worrying that the ‘recovered’ figure lagged ‘deaths’. Perhaps more worrying that the ‘recovered’ figure does not seem to be included any more.

Our Girl, Helen of DesTroy has these thoughts on the provenance of Wuhan coronavirus:
While many alt-media outlets have fingered Event 201 as the replica “drill” that so often coincides with a false flag event, few are aware that on the day after that simulation, the 2019 Military World Games kicked off in Wuhan, bringing 300 US military personnel to the city. Former Malaysian PM Matthias Chang, however, zeroed in on the games as the likely entry point for what he described as a biological war waged by the US against China.

February 6, 2020 at 1:25 am #53558WESParticipantWhen it comes to the coronavirus, despite being a rather mathematically challenged engineer, I still believe, rightly or wrongly, in the power of compounding!
I will first admit, central banker’s NIRPs, shook my beliefs in the power of compounding severely.
None-the-less, since central bankers now appear to be pushing on a string, my faith in the power of compounding has risen somewhat, because I am now dealing with communist beaurocrats!
Beaurocrats, communist or not, live only to stay in power tomorrow! This test ensures I am actually dealing with only positive power of compounding math!
As such, I recommend adding a “ZERO” to all “Official” government numbers to obtain a resultant number!
If any further doubt remains, I highly recommend multiplying the resultant number by a suitable “fudge factor” number to obtain a proper power of compounding resultant!
For example, to calculate the actual death toll, multiply 500 by 10 = 5000 then multiply by a fudge factor of 5 = 25,000 dead! See it works!
P.S. I here by attest that this mathematical model has actually been tested in over 30 countries including communist countries!
