The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) say that HCQ can help at least 90% of C19 sufferers, probably more if the treatment is started as soon as the patient develops severe symptoms.

Azithromycin, 500 milligrams once a day, five days.There seems to be two main reasons for the campaign against HCQ. The first is from those who hate Trump and do not this to be used because he said it could help. The second is from those with links to pharma who want a chance to make money out of C19, and possibly to certain oligarchs who have their own agenda. In my opinion deliberately withholding treatment using HCQ is manslaughter at the very least!

Well, other than the HCQ vs remdesivir multi-billion idiocy. Good to see Fauci’s role explained more/better, and that remdesivir is an intravenous drug only, something I hadn’t noticed yet.
It really has a “sell ice to Eskimos” quality: a drug which doesn’t do anything but maybe shorten a hospital stay by 1 or 2 days, used to push a drug that’s been perfectly safe since the 1950’s out of the market, and that comes in little pills, not needles. this is going to cost lives, obviously, and nobody will ever be the wiser.

The whole M. Flynn story that’s trying to get sold is a crock of unmitigated shit. Trump was warned by Obama and Sally Yates that he was a security risk and that he was being paid by RT as well as Turkey. Any one who knows anything about law enforcement knows that they make a plan about how to go about making their case when they decide to go after someone. Sydney Powell is his lawyer and will say anything to get him off. Barr is Trumps toady and will do his dirty work for him. That we know already. Trey Gowdy is a slut that will do and say anything to further the Republican partisan cause. Dragging Benghazi out for years to try and create whatever smut he thought he could fabricate for political gain. Flynn confessed twice to lying about speaking to the Russian Amb. Trump fired him because he lied to Pence. You know, because he and Pence were unaware of his intentions when he spoke to Kislyak, which is a violation of the Logan act. So the whole hub bub is about FBI deciding whether to get him to confess about violating the Logan act or to lie about it. Flynn chose the latter. He should be in jail.
Wow – I find myself in (rare) full agreement with Taleb today. Managing response at the most regional level is indeed the only rational path forward.
Still.. though I accept his point that economies have historically and inevitably contracted during times of pandemic, this is a somewhat dangerous comparison. They didn’t have access to gene sequencers, the internet, cloud compute etc etc. Their only rational response was maximum caution (at maximum economic cost). We do have access to those tools, and the useful role of WHO/CDC etc would be in providing platforms to host anonymised master data record sets that could be accessed widely to allow correlation and inference. Like Worldometer but with actually useful data.
I was trawling through the just-released official advice to the NZ government from the scientists at the University of Otago. Their first paper, released in February was naturally high level and cautious due to lack of info at that time. But it did mention that they doubted NZ would follow international trends such as China due to NZ factors such as lower population density, low use of mass transport, relatively good population health, and good air quality. Bingo.
The next paper in March 23rd, when more data is available omits any mention of those external factors. This was the one whose modelling was taken apart by the economist at Tailrisk. It’s not a bad paper, but the narrative focuses solely on the worst case possibility. That’s strange, considering the scientists were awake to that possibility previously. I suspect they lacked the courage to stand up to the prevailing international narratives at that time.
The final paper, released March 24th dispenses with any counterfactuals entirely. It takes the worst case scenario from the previous day and presents it alone. Presumably they were given a political directive to do exactly that – it’s incredibly unlikely the previously tentative scientists decided to take that path themselves.
So there’s a concrete record for anyone that cares that tracks the descent of science from initial common sense through to herd thinking through to total scientific collapse in the face of political objectives. Again, unless radical transparency is a baked-in feature of the process, we will get shit politically-motivated decisions, not good ones.On another note – Dr D.. Again, the “End Coronavirus.org” graphs are very interesting. The winning green states, Hawaii and both Montana and Alaska in the winter, are islands. To keep it this way they will have to test everyone entering the state. Hawaii and Alaska can require a negative virus test at their airports, for cruise ships departures, or a 14 day quarantine like Austria. This will keep these states safe but what can Montana do? Close their borders? Universal testing in the USA would solve this problem.
Right next door to each other, green Vermont is winning and red New Hampshire is losing the fight against the Wuhan coronavirus. Both declared an emergency on the same date. What is Vermont doing right than New Hampshire didn’t do? The rest of the USA should do it too. But an incompetent White House has sidelined the dysfunctional CDC, the federal agency tasked to find these answers. This is what killed 80,690 Americans to date with many more to come.
