The ‘democratic’ structures, institutions in the ‘Collective West’ are no longer functioning.
In times of economic growth, many arrangements can pass for accepted doctrine, can become ‘law.’ Common pragmatic ways-of-doing, not to forget friendly tolerance, are upheld, consensus is high, ppl are happy…
The structures, procedures, habits, adopted slogans, are now empty shells, the walls and characters held up by demonstrably ersatz props, just like the movie sets in the 70’s – fake frontage, buildings, mocked-up stunts, dubbed speech, fash ppl playing cool, spooky rebels, etc. That’s all fine if it is just a fashion thingie, money-making, new products, new stars, sexy garbs, pounding lyrics, etc. *many* might say.
The glam is gone.. senile Biden and debilic Harris on the front stage, spell: either the USA has totally lost its way (the US lovers around me say it is so, shake their heads, and hope Obama can be Prez. again! or maybe Michelle!) or the behind-the-scenes people running the show can’t, or so it seems, find and install convincing figureheads.
In the US! With its fantastic pool of actors, stellar Hollywood movies, etc.
In France, Parliament is a sham, they don’t vote. Or only in small numbers that are sorta pre-arranged, surprise, the vote turns out to be pro-Macron. A type of ‘Executive order’ is actioned if the vote ‘fails.’ The ‘elected’ Parliamentarians want to keep their posts.. ..Other ex. Baerbock, Foreign Min. Germany, saying I don’t care what the German ppl say or want, I support UKR. 100% (or words to that effect) on public TV.
The W world is now facing a split between the ‘Elites’ …
Some of the Mega Rich, Top Pols, Corps with Clout (MIC, big Pharma, big Chem, Agri..), ‘globalists’, the 20%, landowners, those who control information aka MSM, others could be added…

Nation-states, National pride etc. are still touted to keep us plebs quiet and in line.
