It was that like DEI hires, THEY WERE NOT COMPETENT. At all. They weren’t hired on merit, so it doesn’t matter if you give them a million or a billion: they will blow it. And they did. Again, do they DESERVE this rulership, or are they cheating and taking a shortcut?
So the point isn’t the winning or losing, it’s the shortcut. It’s the True Mandate. It’s rising to the occasion.
Okay, also fun. Ha ha ha. No: what that means is, THEY CAN’T WIN. Why? Because whatever game play, TALENTED people will win with it, INCOMPETENT people will lose with it. Seymour Hersh breaks My Lai Massacre story – 1969
In a cable filed through Dispatch News Service and picked up by more than 30 newspapers, investigative journalist Seymour Hersh reveals the extent of the U.S. Army’s charges against 1st Lt. William L. Calley at My Lai. Hersh wrote: “The Army says he [Calley] deliberately murdered at least 109 Vietnamese civilians during a search-and-destroy mission in March 1968, in a Viet Cong stronghold known as ‘Pinkville.’”
“The incident, which became known as the My Lai Massacre, took place in March 1968. Between 200 and 500 South Vietnamese civilians were murdered by U.S. soldiers from Company C, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade of the Americal Division.
During a sweep of the cluster of hamlets known as My Lai 4, the U.S. soldiers–particularly those from Calley’s first platoon–indiscriminately shot people as they ran from their huts, and then systematically rounded up the survivors, allegedly leading them to a ditch where Calley gave the order to “finish them off.”
Little known detail, Major Collin Power was instrumental in helping to try and cover up the My Lai Massacre but Hersh’s report made that impossible. But Power was promoted because he was noted as a “team player” who would lie about anything.As of 2018, Calley was living in Gainesville, Florida
He died there on April 28, 2024, at the age of 80.
His death was not reported until July 29, when it was discovered in public records.
On his death certificate, a question asking if he had ever served “in [the] U.S. armed forces” was marked “no”

@Oroboros: I was in 7th grade on a USMC base when Hersh broke the My Lai massacre story. There were a lot of strong feelings all around, largely that Calley was being scapegoated, but it seemed to me that he had committed and ordered a horrible slaughter of women and children. Hersh posted something this year about how he chased that story, which was interesting, and is here somewhere and in my blog somewhere.

Jamal Simmons, the former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris, elicited audible reactions from CNN panelists Sunday when he called for Democrats to disrupt President-elect Donald Trump’s transition.
